Measuring a staggering 7,816 metres, it holds the Guinness World Record as the world’s longest golf course. The par-72 layout sits at high altitude beneath its namesake mountain, where thinner air helps the ball travel farther, useful when the fifth hole alone stretches 711 yards. Distance, elevation and dramatic mountain scenery combine to make this one formidable walk in the park.

ONE OF GOLF’S MOST EXPENSIVE ROUNDS
Shadow Creek, USA
Designed by Tom Fazio and carved from the Nevada desert, Shadow Creek has become synonymous with golf at its most extravagant. In 2026, a round costs US$1,250, with access for regular guests tied to a stay at an eligible MGM Resorts property and limousine transportation forming part of the experience. Lakes, waterfalls and mature trees make the desert disappear, which, at that price, might be the least you could ask for.

MOST NORTHERLY GOLF COURSE
Uummannaq, Greenland
Forget greens. At Uummannaq, the putting surfaces are known as “whites”. Guinness recognises the Greenland site as the world’s most northerly golf course, with a layout created on frozen sea ice that changes according to ice and snow conditions. The World Ice Golf Championship has brought competitors here with brightly coloured balls and sub-zero temperatures, although Arctic conditions have occasionally cancelled play altogether. 

LARGEST FLOATING GOLF GREEN
Coeur d’Alene Resort, USA
At Coeur d’Alene Resort, even the green refuses to stay put. Its famous par-three 14th features the world’s largest floating golf green, a 15,000-square-foot island whose distance from shore can be adjusted daily. Once you land your shot, an electric boat takes you across to finish the hole. Assuming, of course, your ball made the journey first.

MOST SPRAWLING GOLF COURSE
Nullarbor Links, Australia
Forget walking the back nine: at Nullarbor Links, you’ll need a car. Stretching 1,365 kilometres across the Australian Outback, the 18-hole course places a single hole at participating towns and roadhouses along the Eyre Highway between Ceduna and Kalgoorlie. Opened in 2009, it turns a round of golf into a cross-country road trip, with rugged natural terrain filling the considerable gaps between greens.
