The latest collections are arrestingly beautiful, featuring everything from contemporary warriors to a lively celebration of Spain’s artistic legacy
The scarlet blooms of Plaza de Espana in Seville, Spain served as a breathtaking background for Maria Grazia Chiuri’s Cruise 2023 collection for Dior.
The collection is a tribute to Andalusian art and culture, paying homage to the expressiveness and elegance of gestures.
Legendary dancer Carmen Amaya, well-known by her stage name La Capitana, is Maria’s muse for the new collection. Carmen was the first flamenco dancer to perform in men’s attire, and she was known for her revolutionary movements, embodying the concept of multifarious femininity.
Notable designs include the distinctive Manila shawl paired with Andalusian horsemen’s breeches and short jackets with brandebourg closures. Mantillas with fine embroidery are complemented with pinstripe suits and boleros with trim. Red, yellow, ochre and black taffeta is fashioned into extravagant skirts, while lace appears in various forms. Dior’s signature Bar jacket gets a luxurious update in black velvet embellished with gold threads.
At Louis Vuitton, the collection is more than just fascinating; it is also an inspiring look at the future of fashion.
Runway models who included Olympic gold champion in freestyle skiing, 18-year-old Eileen Gu, morphed into bold, futuristic warrior women with each new, fashion-forward outfit.
It is evident that the French brand’s designer Nicolas Ghesquière understands the growing importance of making women feel confident and empowered in all facets of their lives, including what they wear.
He explores the contrast between structural constructions and fluid draping, as well as the contrast between technology and the earth, by using looks that recall a desert atmosphere and metal tones that reflect the sun’s rays.
For Spring/Summer 2023, Spanish label Loewe proposes clothes that are mostly futuristic, and romantic and refined at the same time.
Among the standout outfits are pixelised pieces expertly crafted using ingenious 3D seams, haphazardly-draped cocktail dresses and eveningwear in delicate fabric gathered with bows at the waist.
Then there are the eternally chic ones such as a trench jacket cut to enhance the feminine figure, floral dresses, polo shirtdresses and oversized sweaters.
With undertones of romance and classicism, Loewe’s creative director J.W. Anderson clearly knows how to create clothes that are bold in their aesthetic and craftsmanship.
