Have you ever wondered about the ingredients that go into your products? Well, the people of Joi did their research, and they found out the nasty truth: parabens, phthalates and aluminiums are all harmful to your health. That is what got them started on a goal to produce clean, safe and effective products with 100% natural ingredients, free from dangerous chemicals that function just as well, if not better, than other products available on the market today. Their first product came about for personal reasons. They have always had trouble finding deodorants that could make them smell fresh since they are “heavy sweaters”. They finally found solutions to their issues after months of conducting research and learning through trial and error. They were successful in producing a deodorant that was created entirely from natural ingredients, which truly worked. They then asked themselves, “Why stop there?” “We were still using other products with potentially health-harming ingredients. So we got to work and formulated our own shower gel, and have a few more products in the pipeline.” Currently, Joi’s products include a range of skincare items like cleanser, toner, sunscreen, face oil, face serum and more. 

The Hive
The Hive Bulk Foods is Malaysia’s first zero-waste store, selling everything from bulk whole foods and cleaning products to eco-friendly personal care and lifestyle items. Zero-waste is the practise of producing little to no waste. Therefore, the order of the 5Rs holds (Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Repurpose, Recycle and Rot). The primary objective is to manage our waste so that everything gets repurposed and given another life. The Hive caters to individuals with different preferences including people who are vegan, gluten intolerant, health conscious, zero-wasters and/or minimalists. Options for refusing and reducing packaging are offered at The Hive. They collaborate with their suppliers to reduce packaging for delivery, and they maximise recycling and upscaling of any box, bottle, jar or bag they receive. The Hive’s products are reusable, washable, and, in certain cases, compostable. As a social enterprise, The Hive partners with local organic farmers, women entrepreneurs, refugees and other social enterprises. Each time you purchase the refugee handmade products, you are contributing to charity. The Hive’s commitment to advocating a zero-waste lifestyle, efforts to lessen  impact on the environment, and adoption of sustainable business strategies earned it a United Nations award in 2017.

The Mineraw
The connection to the earth, a love for nature and the human body are the sources of inspiration for The Mineraw. It is dedicated to offering skin-safe beauty products that are simple, gentle and clean. “All products are safely tested on friends and family, never on animals. Our mindful products are vegan, vegetarian and cruelty-free; suitable for all skin types, concerns and gender. They are free from synthetic fragrances, artificial colorants, parabens, phthalates, sulphfates, cortisones, alcohols, silicones, formaldehyde, petrochemicals, mineral oils and talc,” says its founder, Jidienne Ibanez. The first products she launched (Glow Serum Face Oil, Toner Balance, Purify Face Mask and Honey Glow Scrub) were actually part of her own everyday skincare routine. “Each product is made in small batches using high quality, sustainable ingredients.” Now, The Mineraw has products for various skin concerns such as sensitive, acne prone, dry, oily, and more. Also available are accessories like a resuable tote and an eco-friendly bamboo toothbrush.
