Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa’s dedication to sustainability is evident in its variety of curated guest experiences. All excursions are conducted without any plastic bottles or disposals, and bento boxes are used to carry food and water. Local fishing trips use traditional Maldivian methods like hand lines, hooks, sinkers, and bait. Fish that do not meet the minimum length or are a protected species are released. Guests are only permitted to keep one catch per villa and the rest will be released. Coral reef monitoring, based on the Australian programme ‘Coral Watch’, is conducted every month at the resort's house reef, which is surrounded by powder-white sand beaches. This is done to help protect the natural environment of Hadahaa private island. The removal of threatening species from the coral reef, such as the Crown of Thorns sea star and the Drupella sea snail, is conducted on a weekly basis. Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa is also involved in the ‘Reef & Me’ project, which provides awareness and education to local school children about the coral reef ecosystems. The resort’s staff give talks on reef sustainability at schools on two nearby islands, while a marine biologist gives twice-weekly ‘Go Deeper’ talks to guests at the resort to educate them about the environment.

With superior seafood from the best local suppliers and seasonal fruits cultivated at Sunshine 18 Degree, a huge off-site farm, the first Asian location of US-based 1 Hotels features some of the island’s freshest flavours. “At 1 Hotel Haitang Bay, Sanya, we are passionate about taking our guests on an extraordinary culinary journey that showcases the fantastic ingredients this beautiful island has to offer,” says Director of Culinary, Malaysian Chinese chef Pearl Woo. “We are excited to share 1 Hotels’ philosophy of making food that is good, clean, and fair, from farm to fork with our guests in Sanya.” Introducing a mission-driven luxury lifestyle, 1 Hotel Haitang Bay’s eco-architecture and nature-inspired interiors are carefully designed to complement its culinary philosophy. Committed to sustainable practices and taking diners back to nature, the culinary model is built around slow food and farm-to-table movements, with the aim of forging strong connections between people and the natural world through what we eat. Additionally, the team has implemented several waste-reduction measures; guests can enjoy fresh seasonal fruits that are imperfect in appearance but perfect in taste, which would otherwise be discarded by producers or grocers at the Lobby Farm Stand. In support of Sanya government’s goals towards green living, the hotel also collaborates with government-appointed waste management companies to ensure excess waste is properly discarded and kept to a minimum.
