TROPICANA Corp Bhd has been seen three management changes in less than two years.
Last week, Tropicana surprised the market when it announced its third management change, and named former CIMB Group banker Kok Kong Chin (KC Kok) as its second group managing director (MD).
Apart from Kok’s appointment, this new lineup involved promoting two key members of its senior management team.
Former group MD Datuk Dickson Tan, who is also the son of Danny, was promoted to deputy group chief executive officer (CEO). His deputy, Edmund Kong Woon Jun, was appointed group managing director.
The current group CEO of Tropicana is Datuk Yau Kok Seng. He was first appointed to this position in January 2013.
Yau was poached from his former position as MD of Sunway Holdings Bhd.
That was the time Tropicana announced its second management line up.
Following Yau’s appointment, Danny was redesignated as executive vice-chairman from his previous post of director and CEO. Meanwhile, Dickson was made MD.
Earlier on in 2011, Danny had hired new recruits which included Koong Wai Seng, the former chief financial officer of Sunway City, Edmond Kong and Datuk Andy Khoo Poh Chye.
Koong resigned in March 2013 and is now deputy CEO of Malaysia Aica Bhd.
Prior to that, former Dijaya Managing Director had been the company’s MD since 2007. He took an optional retirement in Jan 2013.
On its most recent management change, Danny said that the significant increase in the scale of Tropicana’s operations demanded sharper management and operational focus.
“I am confident that this dynamic and highly capable team will steer Tropicana to greater success as we continue with our transformation journey,” said Danny.
