IN line with its ambition to reach the peak of the industry, developer Tropicana Corp Bhd recently announced the appointment of a second Group MD and the promotion of two key members of its management team.
Former Group MD Da-tuk Dickson Tan was promoted to Deputy Group CEO and his deputy, Edmund Kong Woon Jun, is the now new Group MD. In addition, Kok Kong Chin has been appointed as a second Group MD.
According to Tropicana, the new roles were assumed on March 14.
Prior to joining the group in 2005, Tan served as an equities analyst at CIMB Securities Sdn Bhd. He joined Tropicana as a development manager and was later appointed to the Board of Tropicana on 2009. He was subsequently appointed as Executive Director of Tropicana on April 2010.
In the same year, Tan was promoted to Deputy MD, and in 2013 he rose to the rank of Group MD. He currently helms the group's corporate strategy, planning and risk management activities.
Kong has more than 25 years of experience in the property development and construction industry. He started his career as a Senior Architect in BEP Arkitek Sdn Bhd in 1994. Between 2003 to 2008, he was the Director of Project and Product Planning of Perdana Parkcity Sdn Bhd, involved in the planning and design of the popular Desa ParkCity township.
Kong later served as Director of Planning and Design at TA Global Bhd in 2008, and was promoted to CEO in the same year. He was appointed as Executive Director of Tropicana on March 2011 and subsequently promoted to Deputy Group MD on March 2013.
The new second Group MD holds over 23 years of experience in the Asean banking and financial services industry. Before joining Tropicana, Kok spent 10 years with the CIMB Group, covering global markets such as Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia, Hong Kong China and the United Kingdom.
He was Chairman of CIMB Futures Sdn Bhd, and held directorships in several other subsidiaries of the CIMB Group both locally and regionally.
According to the Tropicana Group founder and Executive Vice Chairman Tan Sri Dannv Tan Chee Sing, the promotions coincide with the group's transformation plan for accelerated growth, which will see the unlocking of value of the group's substantial asset base and landbanks..
