Dijaya and Starwood Collaborate to develop W Hotel in the Golden Triangle
Dijaya Corporation Bhd and Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc yesterday signed a collaboration agreement to develop W Hotel in Jalan Ampang. The Tourism Minister Dato’ Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen was invited to witness the signing ceremony.
Dato’ Seri Dr Ng said that she hoped this collaboration would boost tourism in Malaysia.
She said, “Currently, Malaysia is still short of 40,000 hotel rooms. Therefore, we are required to build at least 200 hotels of various ratings throughout Malaysia to cater for the increasing tourist arrivals.”
The W Hotel that will be developed in the Golden Triangle is under the collaboration of Dijaya Corporation Bhd and Starwood Hotels & Resorts World Inc. It is designed by a renowned architect from New York and will work towards a Green Building Index (GBI) rating.
Scheduled to open in 2016, W Kuala Lumpur will have 150 rooms, 1,200 sq m of meeting space, one ballroom and 5 meeting and function rooms, with the total investment of RM300 million.
Others who were present during the signing ceremony included Dijaya group CEO Tan Sri Dato’ Danny Tan, Independent Non-executive Chairman Datuk Rohana Mahmood, Dijaya Managing Director, Deputy Managing Director Mr Dickson Tan, Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc Asia Pacific Regional Vice President for Southeast Asia Mr Chuck Abbott and Director of Development Mr Rajit Sukumaran.
