New Straits Times, 6 May 2011

W Kuala Lumpur hotel - to be developed on the former Bok House site along Jalan Ampang by Dijaya Corp Bhd and Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc - will go green in the heart of the capital.

At the signing of a memorandum of understanding with Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide recently, Dijaya independent non-executive chairman Datuk Rohana Mahmood said that with the company seeking differentiation in sustainability practices, it will work towards a Green Building Index rating for W Kuala Lumpur.

"Dijaya is looking at the needs of tomorrow's jetsetters while addressing a wider range of environmental challenges facing the hospitality industry. W Kuala Lumpur is an iconic start that is sure to set a new industry standard for green hotels," Rohana added.

Designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merill LLP of New York, it is expected to start construction by year-end and ready in 2016.

Facilities will include rooms equipped with the W brand's signature ultra-comfortable W beds, four F&B outlets with signature concepts, fitness centre, full-service spa, nail bar, ballroom as well as meeting and function rooms.

Currently, W Hotels are found in other Asian cities such as Bangkok, Beijing, Guangzhou, Mumbai and Singapore.

The proposed six-star W Kuala Lumpur, which is part of a 50-storey hotel-cum-residential block of 350 units, will have 150 rooms and occupy 10 floors of the building.
